Workshop 5

This presentation explores the health experiences of 2SLGBTQIA+ people aged 50 and older in New Brunswick, drawing on findings from the postdoctoral research project The Aging Rainbow. Using narrative inquiry and participatory visual methods, Dr. Amelia C. Thorpe (she/her) will address issues of accessibility, social isolation, loneliness, disability, and health care access, while highlighting the effects of ageism, heterosexism, and cissexism on the lived realities of 2SLGBTQIA+ older adults.

Dr. Amelia C. Thorpe is a Postdoctoral Fellow in Sociology and teaches in the Faculty of Education at the University of New Brunswick. A longtime activist and community organizer, Amelia is interested in community building, accessibility and community care, knowledge sharing, and intergenerational solidarity work within 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, with a focus on seniors.
